Ricky Ponting described Virat Kohli as the player who will bring a new revolution in Test cricket.
The Indian team has to play a 5-match Border-Gavaskar Test series on its tour of Australia at the end of 2024. At the same time, a round of statements is being seen before that, in which a big statement has come from former Australian captain Ricky Ponting in which he has praised Virat Kohli and also described him as a player who brought a new revolution in Test cricket in India. In his statement, Ponting has also praised the contribution of former Team India head coach Rahul Dravid, who played a key role in taking the team to a different level during his tenure.
Kohli gave the team confidence that they can win anywhere
Praising Virat Kohli during a conversation on Sky Sports, Ricky Ponting said that Kohli played an important role in changing Indian cricket along with taking over the captaincy, which Rahul Dravid also continued as head coach in the last four years. The influence of such a person in the team is very good when he also has star players. Under Kohli’s captaincy, India defeated Australia in a Test series for the first time in its home in the year 2018-19, after which India became the first Asian team to win a Test series in Australia. Kohli’s aggressive attitude proved to be very positive for the entire team, due to which the Indian team’s better performance in Test series on foreign tours has been seen consistently in the last few years.
Now Indian players are not afraid of the big stage
In the year 2020-21, the Indian team won the Test series 2-1 on their last Australian tour, in which they registered a thrilling win in the last match of the series played at the Gabba ground. Regarding this, Ricky Ponting also said that they won a match at the Gabba which simply does not happen. I think the batsmen of the Indian team have now become more capable of adapting themselves to foreign conditions. I don’t think they are as scared of the Gabba or Optus Oval as they probably used to be earlier. Now Indian players do not feel the pressure of the big stage much and their fast bowling has also improved a lot in the last 6 to 7 years, the full credit for which goes to their strong leadership.
