Australian Open 2024: Star Indian player Sumit Nagal has made a big upset in the Australian Open 2024. He has defeated Kazakhstan’s veteran player Alexander Bublik. By winning the match Sumit has reached the second round. This is a big achievement for young Indian player Sumit. He has played in the main round of one more Australian Open. But then he had to face defeat in the first round itself. Alexander Bublik’s ATP ranking is 27 while Sumit Nagal is at 107th.

Sumit Nagal did not give the Kazakhstan player a chance to survive and gave a stellar performance. He won the first set very easily. After this Alexander tried to make a comeback. But in the end the victory went to Sumit. Sumit had to fight hard against Alexander. For this reason the match lasted for 2 hours 37 minutes. He defeated the opponent player 6-4, 6-2 and 7-6. Alexander has been seeded 31st for the Australian Open 2024. Sumit is in excellent form and had won all three of his matches in the qualifying round in two sets each.
First player to do so after 1989
Sumit Nagal has become only the second Indian player to reach the second round of Australia after 11 years. Before Nagal, Somdev Devvarman was the last Indian to reach the second round of the Australian Open. He achieved this feat in the year 2013. Nagal has become the first Indian player since 1989 to defeat a seeded player in any Grand Slam. The last Indian to defeat a seeded player in a Grand Slam was Ramesh Krishnan, who surprisingly defeated Mats Wilander.
26 year old Indian player Sumit Nagal will have to face another player in the second round on January 18. This will be confirmed soon.
