United World Wrestling (UWW) has lifted the suspension imposed on the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) with immediate effect. United World Wrestling had suspended the Wrestling Federation of India in August last year after the WFI failed to conduct elections on time. The Disciplinary Chamber decided that there were sufficient grounds to impose a suspension, as this had been the case for at least six months in the federation.
United World Wrestling met on February 9 to review the suspension and after considering all elements and information, decided to lift the suspension. WFI will have to conduct re-election of its Athlete Commission. Candidates for this commission will be active athletes. Whereas athletes who took retirement four or more years ago will not be able to contest elections. These elections will be held during trials or any senior national championship. But these elections will not be held after July 1, 2024.
