This is how teams will qualify for the 2026 World Cup
The ICC has also approved the Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 qualification process. The 20-team tournament will be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka and a total of 12 teams will qualify on the basis of ranking and their performance in the World Cup 2024. The top eight teams in the 2024 season will automatically qualify for the World Cup 2026. Two to four teams will secure their places on the basis of ICC rankings.
India and Sri Lanka are already qualified
On the other hand, both the host nations i.e. India and Sri Lanka will already be qualified for the tournament. If India and Sri Lanka are not in the top 8 teams, then the names of India and Sri Lanka will be included first in the remaining four teams. After that two other teams will be able to make their place on the basis of ranking. If India and Sri Lanka already make their place in the top 8, then four other teams will qualify on the basis of ranking. The remaining eight teams out of 20 will qualify through regional qualifiers.
