Hyderabad opener Tanmay Agarwal hit the fastest first-class triple century in 147 balls against Arunachal Pradesh during the Ranji Trophy round four match at the Nexgen Cricket Ground in Hyderabad on Friday. Agarwal broke the record of South Africa’s Marco Marais, who scored 300 runs in 191 balls for Border against Eastern Province in 2017.

He also broke former Indian captain Ravi Shastri’s 39-year-old record of scoring the fastest first-class double century by an Indian by reaching the 200 mark off 119 balls. It was also the second fastest first-class double century ever. On the basis of his brilliant innings, his team has scored 529 runs after losing one wicket in just 48 overs.

Tanmay Agarwal hit 21 sixes on the first day of this match, which is a Ranji Trophy record. The previous record for most sixes in an innings of India’s major domestic tournament was in the name of Ishan Kishan. He hit 14 sixes in an innings. Agarwal, along with captain Rahul Singh Gehlot, added 440 runs for the first wicket in just 40.2 overs, but Rahul was out on the bowling of Techie Doria after scoring 185 runs in 105 balls. Whereas Tanmay Agarwal is currently playing after scoring 323 runs on 160 balls. Apart from 21 sixes, he has also hit 33 fours at a strike rate of 201.87.
