Asad Shafiq Retirement : Pakistani team is currently on tour of Australia. Three test matches are to be played between Pakistan and Australia, which will start from December 14. Meanwhile, before the first Test match started, Pakistan’s veteran Test player has suddenly announced his retirement. However, just a few days ago it was decided that he would have to announce his retirement soon. The player we are talking about is Asad Shafiq.

Asad Shafiq has announced his retirement from international cricket. Recently there were reports of him joining the Pakistani selection committee. Its president is Wahab Riaz. Only after the news of getting the new post, it was decided that soon Asad Shafiq will take retirement from international cricket. However, Asad Shafiq has not played a single test for Pakistan for the last three years. Asad Shafiq made his Test debut against South Africa in 2010. After this, in the year 2020, he played his last Test against England. During this period, Shafiq, who played 77 Tests, has achieved success in scoring a total of 4660 runs. He has 12 centuries and 27 half-centuries in his name. His strike rate is close to 48 and average is 38.19. He made his ODI debut in the year 2010 and continued playing till the year 2017. He has 60 ODIs in his name and has scored 1336 runs. He doesn’t have a century to his name in ODIs, but has definitely scored 9 half-centuries. His T20 International career was very short. He played only 10 matches and scored 192 runs in it.

What did Asad Shafiq say while announcing his retirement?

Announcing his retirement, Asad Shafiq said that he no longer feels the same excitement or passion about playing cricket and that his fitness to play international cricket is no longer the same as before. That is why he has decided to retire. Asad said that he can become a paid national selector of Pakistan Cricket Board. He said that I have received the agreement from the board and I am looking into it. I will sign it soon. It remains to be seen what kind of team he selects for Pakistan when he becomes a part of the committee headed by Wahab Riaz.
