Shakib Al Hasan will contest elections

Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan will contest the country’s 12th parliamentary election after receiving confirmation of his nomination from the ruling Awami League, reports ESPNcricinfo. He will contest from Magura-1 constituency, where polling is scheduled on January 7. But cricket duty may come in the way of his decision to contest the elections. Because Bangladesh team will play two home test matches against New Zealand from 28 November to 10 December. After this, Bangladesh team will tour New Zealand from 11 to 31 December. Even before the World Cup, Shakib had said that he will remain the captain of the T20 team. In such a situation, it will be interesting to see whether he leaves the election campaign and visits New Zealand or not. Bangladesh has to play three T20 matches against New Zealand.

These players have tried their hand in politics

Before Shakib Al Hasan, former Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Mortaza also became MP from Narail during the last elections. Mashrafe received nomination again this year. Apart from Shakib and Mashrafe, BCB president Nazmul Hasan has been an MP since 2009. He once again got nomination from his Kishoreganj constituency. BCB director Shafiul Alam Choudhary also got nomination from Moulvibazar seat.
