The final match of Ranji Trophy was played between Mumbai and Vidarbha. In this match, Mumbai team defeated Vidarbha by 169 runs. With this victory, Mumbai team won the Ranji Trophy title for a record 42nd time. The Mumbai team performed strongly in this match and maintained its dominance on four out of five days of the game. After winning the final match of Ranji Trophy 2023-24, a star Indian cricketer announced his retirement from cricket. This player is none other than fast bowler Dhawal Kulkarni. Dhawal Kulkarni ended his career on a high note.

Ended career with a wicket

Dhawal Kulkarni, who had retired after Mumbai’s victory in the Ranji Trophy final, ended his career in a spectacular manner and bid farewell to himself by taking a wicket on his last ball. In his last match he took a total of 4 wickets. In which three wickets came in the first innings and one wicket in the second innings. When Mumbai needed only one wicket to win the match and the target was very far for Vidarbha, then Mumbai captain Ajinkya Rahane gave the bowling to Dhawal Kulkarni and he took the last wicket for the team. This cannot be the end of a brilliant career for any bowler.

How was Dhawal Kulkarni’s career?

If we take a look at Dhawal Kulkarni’s career, he played domestic cricket for Mumbai and also made his debut for India in the year 2014. Dhawal Kulkarni took 19 wickets in 12 ODI matches for India and three wickets in 2 T20 International matches. In first class cricket, Dhawal Kulkarni took a total of 281 wickets in 157 innings in 95 matches. On the other hand, he had 223 wickets in List A cricket.

Said this on retirement

Dhawal Kulkarni on his retirement said that a cricketer’s dream is to start and finish at the highest level. This is my sixth final, fifth time we have won and this will be the best for me. He also said that he did not expect Rahane to give him the ball to finish the game, but hats off to Tushar who gave me the ball despite taking two wickets in an over. I have experience because I have played with big stars, they have shared a lot of experience with me and I have given the same experience to the youngsters. On his retirement, Team India captain Rohit Sharma, who is also his good friend, wrote in the caption with Dhawal Kulkarni’s picture on his Instagram story that ‘Mumbai Cha Yoddha’ means warrior of Mumbai. He further wrote that well done for a wonderful career.
