Zimbabwe did a big feat in T20, defeated the former world champion team for the first time

Zimbabwe cricket team has succeeded in defeating former world champion team Sri Lanka for the first time in the history of T20 format. The second match of the three-match T20 series between the two teams was played on January 16 at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. In this, host Sri Lanka, batting first, scored 173 runs at the loss of 6 wickets. After this, Zimbabwe achieved this target in 19.5 overs at the loss of 6 wickets. Craig Irwin played a brilliant match-winning inning of 70 runs for Zimbabwe.

In the second T20 match of the series, Zimbabwe team won the toss and decided to bowl first. After this, Sri Lankan team lost its 4 wickets till the score of 27. From here, Charith Asalanka and Angelo Mathews took over the innings and made a brilliant partnership of 118 runs in 79 balls for the fifth wicket, taking the team to a score where the match could be fought. Charith Asalanka’s bat saw a explosive inning of 69 runs in just 39 balls, which included 5 fours and three sixes. Apart from this, Angelo Mathews remained unbeaten till the end and scored 66 runs in 51 balls and took the team’s score to 173 runs in 20 overs. For Zimbabwe, Muzarabani and Jongwe took 2-2 wickets, while Ngarwa and Masakadza took 1-1 wicket.

Craig Irwin’s innings proved costly for Sri Lanka

The Zimbabwe team, which came to chase the score of 174 runs, did not have a good start and they lost their first wicket at the score of 22. After this, Craig Irwin handled the innings from one end and also maintained the pace of runs. There was a partnership of 74 runs in 53 balls for the second wicket between Irwin and Bennett. After this, on the score of 96, the Zimbabwe team got the second blow in the form of Bennett. Till the score of 131, Sri Lanka tried to make a comeback in the match by sending half of the Zimbabwean team to the pavilion but there was a clash between Luke Jongwe and Clive Madande for the 7th wicket. The partnership of 35 runs in 14 balls gave the team victory 1 ball earlier. Now the decisive match of the series between the two teams will be played on January 18.
