Nawaz Sharif-Bilawal Bhutto: Elections have been declared in Pakistan on 8 February. Political turmoil has started before the general elections. Shahbaz Sharif’s government was formed by forming a coalition against Imran Khan. In this government, Bilawal Bhutto became the Foreign Minister from PPP i.e. Pakistan People’s Party. Shahbaz Sharif became the Prime Minister from PML-N. Now with the elections round the corner, there seems to be a crack in the unity of the alliance. The parties which had united and formed an alliance against Imran Khan, are now fielding their own PM candidates. While Nawaz Sharif is the PM candidate from PML-N, PPP has nominated Benazir Bhutto’s son and former Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto as the PM candidate.
The Central Executive Committee (CEC) of the PPP discussed in detail the party’s campaign for the general elections. According to a report, the party’s manifesto was also discussed during the meeting. In this, it has been decided to give priority to women empowerment, youth, health and education, employment.
Bilawal was made PM candidate in the party meeting
A post along with photographs of the meeting was released from the PPP’s official social media account. In these pictures, CEC members have expressed their confidence in the leadership of party president Asif Ali Zardari and president Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. It is noteworthy that Bilawal Bhutto Zardari is contesting from Lahore (NA-127) constituency. Here he will face Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Shaista Pervez Malik and PTI supported candidate.
Imran Khan got another blow
On the other hand, jailed former Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan has suffered the biggest blow. He will not be able to take part in the general elections to be held in Pakistan on 8 February. However, while being in jail, Imran Khan had filed nominations from two seats. But the returning officer has rejected both his nominations. This has increased the problems of Imran Khan. Besides, his dream of becoming the PM of Pakistan again seems to be shattered. However, Imran Khan has challenged this decision of the election officer in Lahore High Court.
Imran Khan called the cancellation of nomination wrong
Imran has termed as wrong the rejection of his nomination papers for two National Assembly seats in Punjab before the elections to be held on February 8. He has challenged this decision of the returning officer in the tribunal of Lahore High Court on Wednesday. The Returning Officer (RO) of Lahore on Saturday rejected the nomination papers of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supremo for two National Assembly (Parliament) seats in Punjab’s Lahore and Mianwali districts on moral grounds and in the Toshakhana corruption case. Was rejected on the grounds of going.
