Lahore: In Pakistan’s Punjab province, police allegedly demolished the minarets of a 40-year-old mosque belonging to the minority Ahmadiya community. Jamaat-e-Ahmadia Pakistan (JAP) gave information about this on Monday and said that the entire action was carried out under the supervision of DSP. This incident took place in Okara, Depalpur, about 130 km from Lahore. Let us tell you that Ahmadiya Muslims have been continuously targeted in Pakistan for the last several years and their places of worship are often attacked.

‘Police raided the mosque’

Giving information about the entire incident on Monday, JAP official Aamir Mehmood said that more than 12 policemen of Punjab Police demolished the minarets of Ahmadiya Mosque in Subhan Shah and also erased the words written there. He said, ‘Two police vehicles came from Depalpur police station under the supervision of Deputy Superintendent of Police and raided the Ahmadi Mosque and cordoned off the area. After this the minarets were demolished. They also erased the words written there using cement.’ Mehmood said that this mosque was built around 1984 and was 40 years old.

42 mosques were attacked last year

Justice Tariq Saleem Sheikh of Lahore High Court had made it clear in his decision last year that there is no need to tamper with the structures of Ahmadi mosques built before 1984. A police officer told about this, ‘We had received a complaint against the minarets of the Ahmadi mosque in Depalpur. We called the local Ahmadi people and asked them to demolish the minarets because they looked like Muslim mosques. When they refused, the police demolished them.’ Mahmood told that last year at least 42 mosques of Ahmadi people were attacked in Pakistan.
