Big news for the students of Delhi, DU VC said – funding of 12 colleges will continue

Last month an order was issued by the Delhi government. In this, it was said that funding will be given to 12 colleges only after their affiliation with Delhi University ends. In response, Delhi University Vice Chancellor Yogesh Singh wrote a letter to Education Minister Atishi emphasizing that the colleges will remain with the university and the state should continue their funding.

What did the Vice Chancellor of DU say?

The Vice Chancellor further requested the Education Minister to withdraw the letter and stressed the importance of restoring funding for these colleges in the interest of the students. Actually, these 12 colleges are completely financially dependent on the Delhi government. These colleges were built between 1986 and 1998 with the provision of 100% funding from the Delhi Government.

Wrote letter to Dharmendra Pradhan also

On December 2, a letter was written by the Education Minister of Delhi to Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan in which he raised the issue of irregularities in the functioning of 12 colleges of DU maintained by the Delhi Government. The Education Minister of Delhi wrote in the letter that the Delhi Government will fund these 12 colleges only after complete ownership, that is, there will be no affiliation of these colleges with Delhi University.

There was talk of establishing a relationship with Ambedkar University.

He wrote that if this does not happen then the Delhi government will stop funding to these colleges. Besides, affiliation of these 12 colleges with Ambedkar University was also mentioned in the letter. Atishi further wrote that if Delhi University does not end its affiliation with these 12 colleges, then the Delhi government will not provide them further funding, even if they can get funds from the central government or the UGC.

On this subject, Maya John, Academic Council member of Delhi University, said, many teachers, non-teaching staff and students in 12 colleges are not even being considered as stakeholders. There was no discussion with the council about ending the relationship.
