UGC’s New Planning For Master Degree Course: One year post graduation degree can be started from next year i.e. next academic session. If this happens, for the first time in the country, master’s degree will be given in a year. UGC has prepared the draft and it will be sent to states and universities this week. From next year i.e. 2024, students will have the option to join one-year or two-year master’s degree program. Not only this, students will also get this facility that they can do PG i.e. Post Graduation in subjects other than the subjects in which they have taken UG i.e. Undergraduate degree.
These changes are based on NEP
Chairman of the University Grants Commission, Professor M Jagadish Kumar told the media in this regard that these changes are based on the National Education Policy i.e. NEP 2020. The council meeting in this regard was held on 3 November. In this, the syllabus and credit work for PG program has been approved. Till now, there was only a two-year master’s program in our country, but after its approval, master’s degree can be obtained in one year.
who will get the chance
Under the new syllabus and credit framework, candidates doing four-year UG course will get the option to do one-year master’s degree programme. Whereas those doing a three-year UG course will have to take a two-year master’s degree.
There will be freedom to change the subject
There will be freedom for multidisciplinary studies in the new syllabus. That means, it will not be necessary to do PG from the same subject or stream in which you have done UG. After passing CUET PG exam, you can do PG in other subjects also. If there are two subjects in UG and one is main and the other is side subject, then PG can be done with side subject also. There will also be an option to change the stream.
