Dark clouds have started looming over the release of ‘The Indrani Mukherjee Story: Buried Truth’. Controversy has arisen just a day before the release of the series. The Bombay High Court has advised streaming platform Netflix to postpone the release of ‘The Indrani Mukherjee Story: Buried Truth’ based on Indrani Mukherjee. Indrani Mukherjee has been accused of murdering her daughter Sheena Bora and this documentary web series has been made on this subject. The High Court said in its order that first its special screening should be done in front of the High Court, CBI and lawyers.
The series was to be released on this day
A bench of Justice Revati Mohite Dere and Justice Manjush Deshpande heard the case. The next hearing in this case will be held in the High Court on Thursday. CBI said in the court that due to this web series, the case going on in the court will be affected. The documentary, directed by Shana Levy and Uraj Bahl, was scheduled to be released on February 23. Earlier, the CBI had approached the Bombay High Court seeking a stay on the release of the documentary series.
The court asked questions
The bench on Thursday sought to know from the producers of the series whether they were willing to organize a screening of the series for the CBI. The court asked, “Why should the CBI not be allowed to watch the series? What is the difficulty in sharing the documents-series?” It states that while an accused has rights, the prosecution and the victim also have rights. Senior lawyer Ravi Kadam, appearing for Netflix, initially objected and said it would amount to pre-censorship. He said that CBI should have approached the court against the series earlier and should not have waited till the last moment. However, the bench said that the hearing in the case is still going on and the statements of witnesses are still being recorded.
