The death of a 79-year-old woman in Kerala was the first death due to the new variant. The woman had Covid-19 along with mild symptoms of influenza-like illnesses (ILI). Four people died on Tuesday, three of whom were above 65 years of age. Only one person was below 65 years of age. All of them had some kind of pre-existing disease. Some had cancer, some had kidney failure, some were diabetic etc. This means that the people who died were already very weak. Therefore, the virus infection could seriously affect them.
