1700 special trains were run during the festive season, see what facilities were provided?

Indian Railways has taken several initiatives this festive season to ensure maximum convenience for passengers without compromising on the quality of service delivery. Railways issued a statement on Tuesday saying that around 1700 special trains are being run across India. 26 lakh berths have been made available this festive season, which is a record number. Elaborate crowd control arrangements have been made at all major and important railway stations where huge crowds are expected to travel to various destinations to celebrate the festivals. Senior officers are deployed at these stations to monitor all the activities to control the crowd in an organized manner.

The facilities provided to the passengers are as follows-

  • About 1700 special trains are being run in India.
  • Central Railway is running 515 festival special train services, up from 270 services last year.
  • Indian Railways has made 26 lakh berths available this festive season, which is a record number.
  • Apart from the regular trains, Central Railway is carrying around 7.50 lakh additional passengers through these festival trains.
  • Elaborate crowd control arrangements have been made at all major and important railway stations where huge crowds are predicted to travel to various destinations to celebrate the festivals. Senior officers are deployed at these stations to monitor all the activities to control the crowd in an organized manner. Especially the major stations like CSMT, LTT, Pune etc. are being monitored.
  • Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel are deployed at the foot-over bridge to smoothly control the crowd to avoid stampede-like situations during heavy rush.
  • Skilled RPF personnel have been deployed in the CCTV control room to keep a close watch on the crowded areas and provide real time assistance to the passengers.
  • Queuing system is adopted for entry into general coaches at originating stations.
  • Proper announcement regarding trains/coaches is ensured on time, so that passengers are aware of the location of general coaches and the platform from where trains will depart.
  • Mixed escorts are deployed in important trains to provide real time assistance especially to female passengers traveling in long distance trains. Meri Saheli campaign is going on for this purpose.
  • Additional booking windows have been opened for the convenience of passengers.
  • Earlier there were about 691 UTS counters in Mumbai division. From the month of November, these have been increased to 803 UTS counters.
  • At major stations of other divisions it is also being ensured that adequate number of counters are functioning.
