New Delhi: There has been no change in the unrest on the India-China border even after 4 years. The border situation has become increasingly sensitive. Indian Army Chief General Manoj Pandey on Friday said the situation on the Line of Actual Control (LAC) is ‘stable but sensitive’. He said that the deployment of Indian troops and other components along the country’s border with China is ‘extremely strong’ and ‘balanced’. “We need to closely monitor and keep an eye on what developments are happening on the border in terms of infrastructure and movement of troops,” he said during a discussion at a ‘conclave’. On the question, he said that if this happens, the Indian Army will react completely different from the 1962 war.

Let us tell you that after the violent clash in Pangong Lake area, there was a deadlock on the eastern Ladakh border on May 5, 2020. Relations between the two countries deteriorated significantly after the Galwan Valley clash in June 2020, the most serious military conflict between the two sides in decades. On the current situation on LAC, General Pandey said, “Stable, but sensitive.” He said that in the context of the current deployment of troops on the LAC and other components, I would directly say that our deployment is extremely strong and balanced. We ensure adequate stock of military infrastructure and artillery (munitions and others) to deal with any possible situation that may arise along the entire LAC.

No hesitation in going to war in national interest

India and China recently held a fresh round of high-level military talks to resolve the border dispute, with both sides agreeing to maintain ‘peace and harmony’ on the ground, but there was no sign of any breakthrough. The Army Chief was also asked what lessons have been learned from the border clashes. On this he said, there is a need to learn a deep lesson not only from the border but from the conflicts taking place all over the world. He said that these lessons are at strategic, operational and tactical level. He said that at the strategic level, national security is gaining prominence in the international system and what this has shown is that when national interests are involved, countries will not hesitate to go to war.

If there is a war, India’s situation will be different this time from 1962.

General Pandey said that in any war over the borders of any country, land will remain a decisive area for us. Referring to the third thing, self-reliance, he said, “It is important for us to become self-reliant not only in conflict, but also in times of pandemic so that the dependence on exports or imports remains almost zero.” Related to the fear of increasing tension on LAC. Asked about an international report making the claim, the Army chief said, “We plan for different contingencies and responses will be different for each contingency.” If the situation worsens, will the Indian Army Will the Army’s response be different compared to the 1962 war? On this question he said, “Definitely.” The response will be effective and will be tailored to the situation at hand. (Language)
