Just before the announcement of the dates of 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the Central Government has implemented the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) across the country. The government issued a notification in this regard on Monday. After the issuance of CAA rule, now non-Muslim immigrants – Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Buddhists, Parsis and Christians who have come to India from neighboring countries – Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan – will be given Indian citizenship till 31 December 2014. On the implementation of CAA, AIMIM President Asaduddin Owaisi said that citizenship should not be based on religion or nationality.

AIMIM President Asaduddin Owaisi said, “You understand the chronology, first the election season will come and then the rules of CAA will come. Our objections to CAA remain the same. CAA is divisive and based on Godse’s thinking, which treats Muslims as second class citizens. Wants to make. Give asylum to any persecuted person, but citizenship should not be based on religion or nationality. The government should explain why it kept these rules pending for five years and why it is implementing it now. NPR- The purpose of CAA along with NRC is to target only Muslims, it has no other purpose. Indians who took to the streets to protest against CAA, NPR, NRC will have no option but to protest against it again.”
Citizenship can be given without documents
The Home Ministry issued a statement saying that the applications will be submitted completely in online mode, for which a web portal has been made available. These people without documents can be given citizenship. Let us tell you that CAA was passed in December, 2019 and later it also got the approval of the President. However, protests against this had started in many parts of the country. After this this law could not be implemented. Now with the implementation of CAA law, police security has been increased in sensitive areas.
