Bank Holidays: Will banks remain closed every Saturday of the month? Demand to work 5 days a week

Will banks remain closed every Saturday and Sunday now?

New Delhi: The central government may soon give good news to the employees working in public sector banks of the country. The government is considering making every Saturday a holiday in public sector banks. Indian Banks Association has submitted a proposal to the government. In this, a demand has been made to declare every Saturday a holiday in all the banks of the country. According to Minister of State for Finance Bhagwat Karad, this proposal has been given by IBA. If the government accepts this proposal then there will be work in banks only for five days every week.

Bank employees have been demanding for a long time

In fact, there has been a demand from government and private banks for a long time to work five days a week. Public sector banks have made this demand to the government several times. In response to a question in the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Finance Bhagwat Karad said that the Indian Banks Association has submitted a proposal to the government. The proposal demands work five days every week. The banks are demanding that every Saturday and Sunday be declared a bank holiday.

Now the bank remains closed on two Saturdays

Let us tell you that currently there are holidays in all banks only on two Saturdays in a month. According to a rule implemented in the year 2015, only two Saturdays in a month will be closed in banks. This order of the government applies to all private and government banks. No bank will remain closed for more than two Saturdays.




Government can also take decision on salary increase

It is being told that along with the holiday on Saturday, the Central Government can also take a decision on increasing the salary of the employees. The salary of bank employees can be increased by 15 to 20 percent. However, no official statement has been given by the government on this yet.
