New Delhi: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Through this letter, he has demanded a ban on Mahadev App on all platforms. In his letter to the Prime Minister on Friday, Chief Minister Baghel said that in recent times, illegal gambling and betting business through online betting and gaming has spread across the country and its operators and owners are running the said illegal business from abroad. Baghel highlighted that the Chhattisgarh government and its state police have been taking strict action since the beginning regarding this illegal business.

Chhattisgarh Police registered more than 90 cases

He wrote that success has been achieved in registering a case in this regard, arresting the accused involved and seizing the property. More than 90 criminal cases have been registered in this regard by Chhattisgarh Police since March 2022. More than 450 accused have been arrested in this. About Rs 16 crore have been frozen in bank accounts, many laptops and mobiles have been confiscated. Baghel also informed that the state police has written to the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology to ban and disable 80 platforms, URLs, links, apps.

Ban on all mediums

Chief Minister Baghel said that Mahadev App, which was involved in illegal business through correspondence with Google, has been removed from the Play Store. Recently 22 illegal betting apps and websites including Mahadev Book have been banned by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. But the thing to note is that this illegal business also operates through many international or domestic mobile numbers, mail IDs, Telegram, WhatsApp, URLs, links, Instagram, APK files, etc. Therefore, it would be advisable to verify the international/domestic mobile number, mail ID, Telegram, WhatsApp, URL used in this business link, Instagram, etc. by establishing sure identity of the files. All these should be banned.

Need to take action at central level

The Chief Minister further wrote in the letter that since the criminal activities of people running online betting or gambling businesses have expanded to international markets, they are using modern information technology techniques and platforms to commit their crimes. Baghel has written that from the investigation so far, the entire functioning of these illegal businessmen has come to the notice of the agencies, hence there is a strong need to take preventive measures at every level to stop the illegal operation of their business and bank accounts. The use by the accused should be stopped immediately. He wrote that steps should be taken to stop this, which can be done at the central level. It has become inevitable that the Central Government should take appropriate action in this direction using its powers and impose a complete ban on them so that crores of people of the country can be saved from getting trapped in the clutches of this illegal business.
