Even before the Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh, there will be a tough competition in the Rajya Sabha elections to be held on Tuesday, February 27, in which BJP has fielded eight candidates and opposition Samajwadi Party (SP) has fielded three candidates for 10 seats. The results of the Rajya Sabha elections being held just before the general elections in the country will have a deep impact on the politics of Uttar Pradesh. The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the main opposition Samajwadi Party (SP) have sufficient strength of assembly members to send seven and three members to the Rajya Sabha unopposed, but the BJP has fielded Sanjay Seth as its eighth candidate. Due to which there is a possibility of tough competition on one seat. Sanjay was earlier in SP and joined BJP in 2010.

Voting will be held tomorrow and results will be released

Voting for 10 Rajya Sabha seats in UP will be held on Tuesday and the results will also be declared on the same day. BJP and SP are the two largest parties in the 403-member state assembly with a strength of 252 MLAs and 108 MLAs respectively. Whereas SP’s alliance partner Congress has only two seats. BJP’s ally Apna Dal (Sonelal) has 13, Nishad Party has six, Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) has nine, Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (Subhashpa) has six, Jansatta Dal Loktantrik has two and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) ) has one seat.

In this way, four seats are vacant in the UP Assembly. BJP has fielded veterans in which seven other candidates include former Union Minister RPN Singh, former MP Chaudhary Tejveer Singh, General Secretary of the party’s Uttar Pradesh unit Amarpal Maurya, former Minister of State. Sangeeta Balwant (Bind), party spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi, former MLA Sadhna Singh and former Agra mayor Naveen Jain. SP has fielded actress-MP Jaya Bachchan, retired IAS officer and former state chief secretary Alok Ranjan and Dalit leader Ramji Lal Suman.

Elaborating on the Rajya Sabha elections, Returning Officer Brij Bhushan Dubey said, “A candidate will need 36.37 first preference votes to register victory. At present, there are 399 MLAs in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly.” Asked whether the three jailed MLAs would also be able to vote in the Rajya Sabha elections, Dubey told PTI that it would be decided by the court and the political party concerned. SP MLAs Irfan Solanki and Ramakant Yadav and SubhaSP MLA Abbas Ansari are in jail.

Regarding the election process, Dubey said that for voting, MLAs will enter from Gate 7, take ballot paper from Room 80 and go to Tilak Hall to cast their vote. He said, “Polling will take place from 9 am to 4 pm on Tuesday. Counting of votes will begin at 5 pm and the results are likely to be declared on Tuesday night itself.”

Samajwadi Party said- we will win

Samajwadi Party chief whip in the assembly Manoj Pandey said that all SP MLAs will vote for the party’s candidates in the Rajya Sabha elections. Asked if the SP candidates might end up falling short of one vote, Pandey said, “How will our votes remain short?” “Our people had contested (2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections) from SubhaSP and RLD and basically they are from SP.”

Pandey expressed confidence that MLAs of SubhaSP (Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party) and RLD (Rashtriya Lok Dal) will vote for SP candidates. Both parties have joined the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance.

Pallavi Patel said- I will definitely vote

Samajwadi Party ally Apna Dal (Kamerawadi) leader Pallavi Patel had earlier said that she would not vote in the Rajya Sabha elections as she did not agree with the SP’s decision to field Bachchan and Ranjan. “I will vote in the Rajya Sabha elections. It is my right and duty, but I have not yet decided who will be the candidate,” she had told PTI on Sunday. Asked whether the two jailed SP MLAs would cast their votes, Pandey said, “The party is trying to bring them to Lucknow so that they can cast their votes.”

Former state chief secretary and SP candidate Ranjan told PTI, “All three candidates fielded by the party will be victorious in the Rajya Sabha elections.” He said that unlike the Lok Sabha elections or the Assembly elections, the Rajya Sabha elections are completely It’s a different game.

Congress said – the effect of the alliance will be visible

Virendra Chaudhary, Congress MLA from Farenda in Maharajganj district, told PTI, “Now, with the alliance between Congress and Samajwadi Party for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the picture here has also become very clear. We will vote for the candidates fielded by SP.” Rashtriya Lok Dal state unit chief Ramashish Rai, who recently joined the NDA, said that all RLD MLAs will vote for BJP candidates in the ongoing Rajya Sabha elections.
