Uttarkashi: The lives of 41 workers are at stake in the Silkyara Tunnel being built in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand. Efforts to rescue them safely have been going on for the last 14 days. In this sequence, now the soldiers of Madras Sappers of the Indian Army have also joined. These soldiers, along with some civilians, will do manual drilling work. A total of 20 special people have been called for this. Plasma cutter has also arrived for rescue work and cutting has been started.

Work can be completed in 12-14 hours

Top laser cutter is also being used along with American Auger’s plasma cutter. If the American Auger machine is taken out by these cutters by evening, then the tunnel work can be completed in 12-14 hours. The possibilities of vertical drilling are absolutely negligible, because at this time all 41 people are comfortably inside the tunnel. They are getting food and everything.

Rat boring will be done inside the tunnel

If driving vertically, there are chances that pressure may build up on the tunnel and its pipe may break due to debris. Therefore, the equipment for vertical drilling has been moved upstairs. For manual drilling, the Indian Army along with civilians will do rat boring inside the tunnel. During this, after digging with hands and tools like hammer and chisel, soil will be taken out and then the pipe will be pushed forward from the platform of the auger itself.

Work stopped after 47 meters

Whereas National Disaster Management Authority member Lt. General Syed Ata Hasnain said in a press conference in the capital Delhi that it is a matter of relief that all the workers who are stranded there are being talked to. Those people are fine. He said that there have been some obstacles in the rescue operation. We are trying to go up to 62 meters into the debris but the machine has stopped after 47 meters. Now there is more cutter work left there. So that the cut part can be taken out, after which manual work will be done. He said that one machine has been airlifted by the Indian Air Force. He says the 6 inch pipe is working.
