New Delhi: Big news has come out regarding former Wrestling Federation President Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. He can meet Home Minister Amit Shah in the WFI matter. It is noteworthy that earlier, former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) President Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh had said on Sunday that he has retired from the sport as he has many other responsibilities which also include the Lok Sabha elections to be held next year. Brij Bhushan made this comment after meeting BJP President JP Nadda. Earlier, the Sports Ministry had suspended WFI till further orders.

What else did the ministry say?

The government cited the ‘hasty announcement’ of holding the Under-15 and Under-20 national competitions ‘without following due process and without giving notice to the players for preparation’ as the basis for suspending the newly elected body of WFI. . The ministry also said that the new body was functioning ‘completely under the control of the former office-bearers’ which is not in accordance with the National Sports Code.

The WFI elections were held on December 21 in which Brij Bhushan’s confidant Sanjay Singh and his panel won by a huge margin. Brij Bhushan said, “I served wrestling for 12 years. Time will tell whether he did good or bad. I have now retired from wrestling. I am now breaking ties with this game. Now whatever decisions have to be taken whether it is contacting the government or handling the legal process, it will now be decided by the newly elected members. Lok Sabha elections are near and I have to move forward.

Brijbhushan clarified that the decision to organize the Under-15 and Under-20 national championships was taken hastily because he did not want the young players to lose an important year of their career. He said, “The old committee had to take the decision of organizing the Under-15 and Under-20 National Championships in a hurry because the competition cycle of the year 2023 will end on December 31 and if the tournament is organized later, then the wrestlers An entire year will be wasted.

Organizing the Under-15 and Under-20 National Championships in Nandini Nagar, Gonda was also criticized. These included Olympic medalist Sakshi Malik who claimed that young female wrestlers were worried about going there. Brij Bhushan said the decision to organize the national championship in Nandini Nagar was taken because other state associations were not ready to host it at such a short notice.

He said, “The hosting of the championship was handed over to Nandini Nagar because other state associations were not ready to organize it within four-five days. The decision to organize the Under-15 and Under-20 National Championships was taken unanimously by all 25 state associations so that the players do not waste a year. All 25 state associations had agreed in writing to organize it in Nandini Nagar.

Brij Bhushan said, “I would urge the government and the Sports Ministry that if they want to organize it in Delhi or any other place, then they should do so under their supervision so that the players do not waste a year.” BJP chief JP Nadda Regarding the meeting, Brij Bhushan said that there was no discussion with him regarding the suspension of the newly elected body. He said, “He is my leader.” I will meet him, will keep meeting him. But it has nothing to do with this (wrestling).

Brij Bhushan is the current BJP MP from Kaiserganj, Uttar Pradesh. The country’s top wrestlers, including Bajrang Punia, Vinesh Phogat and Sakshi Malik, had protested against Brij Bhushan, accusing him of sexually harassing female wrestlers. Bajrang had returned his Padmashree award to the government on Friday after Brijbhushan’s close aide Sanjay Singh was elected to the post of president in the WFI elections. Earlier on Thursday, Sakshi Malik had announced her retirement from wrestling for the same reason. Brij Bhushan also raised questions as to why the wrestlers are opposing the new WFI President Sanjay Singh. He said, “He is not my relative.” (Input: Also from Bhasha)
