Big update regarding Lok Sabha elections

New Delhi: An important update has come out regarding the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The government on Friday amended electoral rules to facilitate citizens above 85 years of age to vote through postal ballot. Till now people above 80 years of age were eligible for this facility.

This amendment has been made a few days before the announcement of the schedule of Lok Sabha and assembly elections of four states.

How many voters above 80 years of age?

According to the new voter list released by the Election Commission, 1.85 crore voters in the country are above 80 years of age, of which the number of ‘centenarian’ (those aged 100 years and above) voters is 2.38 lakh.

According to the Gazette notification issued by the Law Ministry on Friday, the Conduct of Elections Rules, 1961 have been amended to provide the facility of postal ballot to voters above 85 years of age.

It is noteworthy that all the political parties have intensified their preparations for the Lok Sabha elections. Elections can be held between April and May. It is being said that like last time, this time also Lok Sabha elections can be held in 7 phases. However, no official information has been received regarding this yet. (input language)
