The entire wrestling association including the new president was suspended
The Sports Ministry announced a big decision on Sunday. The ministry has directed the newly elected WFI, Wrestling Federation of India, to suspend all its activities. The government has said that the newly elected body is being run by a former office-bearer (Brijbhushan Sharan Singh). WFI has been directed to suspend all its activities until further orders. The government says that the business of the federation is being run from premises controlled by former officials. Which is also the alleged complex in which players have been accused of sexual harassment and the court is currently hearing the case. Along with canceling the recognition of the wrestling association, the ministry has also suspended the newly elected president Sanjay Singh.
This news is showing happiness among the wrestlers, who had made allegations of sexual exploitation against former wrestling association president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. Female wrestler Vinesh Phogat has expressed happiness over the cancellation of recognition of the wrestling association and said that the wrestling association should be kept away from politics.
Vinesh Phogat said that now a woman should be made the president of the wrestling association. Phogat gave the reason behind this that only a woman can understand the problems of a woman. It will be good for girls if a woman president is elected. Now a ray of hope has arisen from the suspension.
For Bajrang Punia, Vinesh Phogat said that if Bajrang wanted, he could have left the movement midway but he did not do so. Bajrang supported us in every undertaking. Phogat described this decision of the Sports Ministry as a victory for women wrestlers.
