New Delhi. Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra’s Lok Sabha membership has been cancelled. Parliament has passed a resolution in this regard. This action has been taken against Mahua in the cash for query case. Let us tell you that on Friday, the Ethics Committee had presented the investigation report against Mahua in the Lok Sabha, after which this action was taken.

Accused of taking bribe

BJP MP Nishikant Dubey, in his complaint, had accused Moitra of asking questions in the Lok Sabha to target the Adani Group and Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the behest of businessman Darshan Hiranandani in exchange for gifts. Dubey said the allegations were based on a letter he received from a Supreme Court lawyer, which contained “multiple evidences of bribery transactions” between Moitra and the businessman.

Unethical conduct as MP

The House has been adjourned till December 11 following the expulsion of TMC’s Mahua Moitra as a Lok Sabha member. Speaker Om Birla said that this House accepts the finding of the committee that the conduct of MP Mahua Moitra was unethical and unbecoming of an MP. Therefore, it is not appropriate for him to continue as an MP.

Mahua did not get a chance to speak

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi moved a motion for Moitra’s expulsion, which was approved by the House by voice vote. The opposition, especially the Trinamool Congress, requested the Speaker several times to give Moitra a chance to present her case in the House, but Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla refused, citing parliamentary practice.
