Ranchi: Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) legislature party leader Champai Soren took oath as the 7th Chief Minister of Jharkhand. The swearing-in ceremony is being held at the Durbar Hall of Raj Bhavan, where Soren was administered the oath of office and secrecy by Governor CP Radhakrishnan. Let us tell you that the Governor had nominated Soren as the Chief Minister on Thursday itself. After Soren, Congress leader Alamgir Alam and Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Satyanand Bhokta took the oath of office and secrecy as Deputy Chief Ministers.

Majority will have to be proved within 10 days

Earlier, JMM legislature party leader Champai Soren had urged the Governor to accept his claim to form the government at the earliest as there was ‘confusion’ in the state. After the resignation of Hemant Soren from the post of Chief Minister on Wednesday, a situation of ‘confusion’ had arisen in the state due to the absence of a CM and due to this the political crisis had deepened. State Congress chief Rajesh Thakur said that Champai Soren has been given 10 days to prove his government’s majority. Congress is an ally of the JMM-led alliance in the state.

Champai Soren is also known as Tiger

People also call Champai Soren as Jharkhand Tiger. Champai had won the by-election for Seraikela assembly constituency for the first time in 1991 as an independent candidate. Soren’s victory was big because he defeated the wife of powerful JMM MP Krishna Mardi. Later, he won on JMM ticket in 1995, but lost the election in 2000 to BJP’s Anantram Tudu. After this, he has been MLA from Seraikela continuously since 2005. In 2019, Soren defeated BJP’s Ganesh Mahali.
