Explaining the reason behind his claim, Dubey said that Jharkhand Mukti Morcha MLA Sarfaraz Ahmed from Gandey has suddenly resigned from the assembly and his resignation has also been accepted.

Why are there claims of Soren’s resignation?

Let us tell you that ED is tightening its grip on Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren. Last Saturday itself, ED had issued a letter-cum-summons to Hemant Soren for questioning in the money laundering case related to the alleged land scam. According to sources, the central agency had asked Soren to inform the investigating officer in this case about the date, place etc. as per his convenience so that his statement can be recorded under PMLA. The ED had sought a reply from the Chief Minister by December 31 and had said that failing which it would initiate further legal action under the provisions of PMLA.

Soren did not appear despite several summons

Let us tell you that ED has so far issued 7 summons to the CM of Jharkhand but he has never appeared before the central agency. The first summons was issued to him to appear on 14 August. The Chief Minister had filed a petition in the Supreme Court and then in the Jharkhand High Court, seeking protection from ED action. He had described the summons as ‘inappropriate’. However, both the courts rejected his petition. According to the ED, this investigation is related to ‘illegal change in land ownership by the mafia’ in Jharkhand.
