Congress demands extension of voting date from Election Commission in Kerala, know the reason – India TV Hindi

The Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) has urged the Election Commission (ECI) to reschedule voting in the southern state as it falls on Friday, which is considered the most important day of the week in Islam. In a joint letter to the election panel, KPCC working president MM Hasan and leader of opposition in the assembly VD Satheesan sought extension of the voting day from April 26, citing difficulties faced by Muslim voters, party sources said. have requested.

According to the report, the letter said that holding elections on Friday or Sunday could cause a lot of inconvenience to the voters as well as the election officials and booth agents.

Demand to change the date

Speaking to ANI, Hasan said, “The voting date in Kerala is April 26. In Kerala, Friday and Sunday will prove to be an inconvenience for various sections of the community, so we have sought to change the voting date to some other date. I have also sent a mail to the Election Commissioner and the UDF President and the opposition leader. He has also sent a mail to the Central Election Commissioner.”

Earlier, the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) had also expressed its intention to approach the election panel seeking change of polling dates in Kerala as well as Tamil Nadu, where polling will be held in the first phase on April 19. The day is also Friday.

IUML, Congress’ key ally in Kerala, had said it would approach the ECI to change the election dates in the two southern states. IUML state general secretary P M A Salam said, “The announcement of polling on Friday will cause inconvenience to voters, candidates, polling agents and officials deputed on election duty. We will speak to the ECI.”

Voting is to be held in 7 phases

According to the information, the Election Commission announced the schedule of 2024 Lok Sabha elections last week, according to this, the Lok Sabha elections will be held in 7 phases in the country. Voting will start on April 19 and will continue on June 1. Whereas, counting of votes will take place on June 4.
