Testing off the coast of Odisha
According to the information, DRDO has test-fired the new generation Akash (AKASH-NG) missile from the Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur off the coast of Odisha on Friday, January 12 at 10:30 am. According to the information given, this test has been successful. For testing, the missile was used against high-speed unmanned aerial targets. During the test, the target was successfully intercepted and destroyed by the Akash weapon system.

Officials have said that the entire weapon system comprising the indigenously developed radio frequency seeker, launcher, multi-function radar and command, control and communication system of the Akash (AKASH-NG) missile has been proven to be functional. The test has also been deemed accurate according to data received by telemetry and electro-optical tracking systems.

The new generation Akash (AKASH-NG) missile is a state-of-the-art missile system capable of intercepting high-speed air targets. This successful flight test has now paved the way for tests for the use of the weapon system. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has also praised DRDO, IAF, public sector undertakings and enterprises for this successful test.
