ED registers complaint for FIR in case of attack on its officers in West Bengal

New Delhi: Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials suffered serious injuries and their purses and other items were looted in a mob attack during a raid in West Bengal’s 24 Parganas district. In an official statement issued late on Friday evening, the federal agency said it has lodged a complaint with the local police to lodge an FIR against the accused, the ED said. The ED team was attacked when it had gone to search the residence of Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Sheikh Shahjahan in Sandeshkhali in North 24 Parganas in connection with the ration distribution scam.

The mob attacked ED officers with the intention of killing them – ED

“ED officials were attacked by a mob (suspected to be instigated by Shaikh and his associates) while on duty,” the agency said in its statement. Three officers suffered serious injuries as the mob was moving towards the ED officers with the aim of killing them.” ED said that the injured officers are being treated in a hospital. The federal agency said other officers had to flee the scene without being searched to save their lives, as the crowd became “very violent” and even chased the officers to prevent them from carrying out their official duties. .

Mob looted mobile, purse, laptop – ED

“The mob also snatched or looted personal/government items of ED officials like mobile phones, laptops, cash, wallet etc.,” according to the agency’s statement. The agency said, “Jurisdiction to file an FIR against the culprits and take necessary action.” Necessary complaint was given in the police station where the house is located.” As soon as the search team reached Sheikh’s residence, the door was found locked from inside and he refused to open it. The agency said its officials tried to open the door with the help of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel.

A mob of 800 to 1000 people attacked – ED

The agency said in its statement, “The location of his mobile phone at that time indicated that he was inside the house.” After this, within half an hour a crowd of about 800 to 1000 people started moving towards the ED team. The people in the crowd had sticks, stones, bricks etc. in their hands. They surrounded the ED officers and CRPF personnel.” The agency said, ”Suddenly the mob started attacking the ED officers and CRPF personnel, pelted stones at them and attacked the officers and 27 CRPF personnel with sticks. Also raised slogans against ED officers.” ED said the mob damaged the vehicles of officers and security personnel. (Language)
