Lucknow: ED has summoned Louise Khurshid, wife of Congress leader Salman Khurshid, for questioning in connection with the investigation of a money laundering case. Giving information about this on Saturday, sources said that the ED has asked him to appear in its office on February 15. The case pertains to alleged misuse of government funds in the distribution of artificial limbs and devices by a trust led by Lewis Khurshid. Sources said that he has been asked to appear at the ED office in Lucknow on February 15 to record his statement under the provisions of PMLA.
MP-MLA court had issued arrest warrant
The MP-MLA court in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh had issued an arrest warrant against Lewis Khurshid in this case two days ago and had fixed February 16 for the next hearing on the case. Salman Khurshid has been a Union Minister in the UPA government. This money laundering case of ED is related to the 2017 FIR of the state government. Special Public Prosecutor Achintya Dwivedi had said that in the year 2009-10, a program of distribution of artificial limbs and equipment to the disabled was organized by Dr. Zakir Hussain Memorial Trust of Lewis Khurshid, wife of former External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid, in Bhojipura area of ​​Bareilly district.
Case of misuse of money by using fake seal
Dwivedi said that after allegations of rigging in this program, the government had got the matter investigated, in which it was found that government funds were misused by using fake seals and signatures in the program. He said that the trust’s ‘project manager’ Lewis Khurshid, trust representative Pratyush Shukla and secretary Mohammad Athar Farooqui are the main accused in this case. Shukla passed away a few years ago. Sources said the ED has recorded the statements of Shukla’s wife and some others and has now asked Lewis Khurshid to join the investigation.
Police had filed a charge sheet against the accused
Uttar Pradesh Police had filed a charge sheet in the court against both the accused. The court issued summons several times thereafter, but the accused neither appeared for appearance nor obtained bail.
