Election Commissioner Arun Goyal resigns, President accepts – India TV Hindi

New Delhi: Now only a few days are left for the notification of Lok Sabha elections to be issued but before that Election Commissioner Arun Goyal has resigned from his post. In the notification issued by the Law Ministry, it was informed that the President has accepted the resignation of Election Commissioner Arun Goyal, it has become effective from March 9.

Tenure was till 2027

According to the information, his tenure was till 2027. Apart from the Chief Election Commissioner, there are two Election Commissioners in the Election Commission. Anup Chandra Pandey, an election commissioner, retired last month. A new appointment had not even been made to his post when Arun Goyal has resigned from the post. With the resignation of Arun Goyal, only Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar is left.

Arun Goyal accompanied the Chief Election Commissioner on his tour to several states for election preparations. But now suddenly he has resigned from the post. He has not yet given any reason for his resignation.

Took VRS from Indian Administrative Service

Arun Goyal had taken VRS from the Indian Administrative Service. He was a 1985-batch IAS officer of Punjab cadre. He joined the Election Commission in November 2022. Before taking VRS, he was posted as Secretary in the Union Ministry of Heavy Industries. There was also controversy regarding his appointment as Chief Election Commissioner. His appointment was challenged in the Supreme Court.
