New Delhi: The Delhi High Court has said that making baseless allegations of extramarital affair against the husband and branding him an adulterer in a public place is an act of extreme cruelty. The court said that such an act provides grounds for divorce. A bench headed by Justice Suresh Kumar Kait has upheld the decision of a family court ordering divorce on a petition by the husband alleging cruelty.
Mental pain due to constant taunting on character and integrity.
The Delhi High Court bench said that spouses expect respect from each other in times of need and ‘act as a wall of protection’. According to the Bench, continuous taunting of another person’s character and integrity causes mental anguish. The court, in a recent order, said that any successful marriage is based on mutual respect and trust and if there is compromise beyond one level, the relationship is sure to end.
Accused of harassing and humiliating wife in public
The court order states that in this case the husband was publicly harassed and humiliated by his wife and he was being verbally attacked. The court said the wife went to the extent of accusing her husband of infidelity in front of employees and guests during office meetings and left no stone unturned in portraying her husband as an adulterer in his office.
