Farmers’ ‘Delhi Chalo March’ postponed for two days

Chandigarh: Farmer leaders on Wednesday postponed the ‘Delhi Chalo’ march by two days after a protester was killed and around 12 policemen were injured in a clash at Khanauri border, one of the two protest sites on the Punjab-Haryana border. Farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher told reporters at the Shambhu border that they would decide on the future strategy on Friday evening. At the same time, Union Minister Anurag Thakur said that we have no problem in talks. They are our food providers.

Farmer organizations will decide the future strategy

Farmer organizations say that thousands of farmers will be camping at Shambhu and Khanauri borders to press for their demands including legal guarantee of minimum support price (MSP) for crops and farm loan waiver. Pandher said the farmers would review the developments at the Khanauri border, where a farmer died after a clash with security personnel from Haryana. He said, “We will decide the next strategy after reviewing the Khanauri incident. Delhi march will be postponed for two days.

Criticism of Haryana Police

On the issue of Centre’s invitation for talks, Pandher said that the farmers had demanded to organize a meeting to resolve the MSP issue. Pandher criticized the security personnel of the Center and Haryana for using ‘force’ against the farmers at Shambhu and Khanauri border. Pandher said that farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal has gone to Khanauri to take stock of the situation. He accused the government of trying to derail the farmers’ movement.

Internet ban extended till 23 February in Haryana

At the same time, in view of the farmers’ ‘Delhi Chalo’ march, the Haryana government on Wednesday extended the ban on mobile internet and SMS sending services in seven districts till February 23. The government said in an order that mobile internet services will remain banned in Ambala, Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Jind, Hisar, Fatehabad and Sirsa districts.

UP government will form a committee

At the same time, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday ordered to form a committee to consider the issues of the farmers of Gautam Buddha Nagar who are protesting against the Noida and Greater Noida administration. The announcement was made late at night after local farmer groups threatened to march to Delhi on foot to press for their demands. Earlier, an unsuccessful attempt was made to march to Delhi on February 8.

Farmer groups are demanding increased compensation and developed plots in lieu of the land acquired earlier by the local administration and NTPC. District Magistrate Manish Kumar Verma said that this committee headed by the Chairman of Uttar Pradesh Revenue Council will discuss the issues of the protesting farmers and submit the report to the government.
