Bhojpuri singer and actor Pawan Singh on Sunday refused to contest the elections as a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate from West Bengal’s Asansol Lok Sabha seat. BJP had made Pawan Singh its candidate from this seat only last Saturday. Regarding this, today Pawan Singh said that “time will tell” whether he will contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections or not. However, while speaking to the media after meeting BJP president JP Nadda, Pawan Singh dodged the question as to why he took this decision.

What did Pawan say after meeting Nadda?

Let us tell you that Pawan Singh was made the BJP candidate from Asansol in West Bengal, but he announced that he will not contest the elections after protests against his candidature. Pawan told the media after meeting Nadda, “I spoke to the party president. Whatever happens in future will be good.” When Pawan Singh was asked whether he would contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections? To this he said, “Only time will tell. If anything happens, I will share it with you… let it be for now.” However, during this time he refused to tell what made him take this decision.

What did Pawan Singh say when he left the ticket?

It is noteworthy that currently Shatrughan Sinha of Trinamool Congress (TMC) is the MP from Asansol Lok Sabha seat of Bengal. After this decision of Pawan Singh, Trinamool Congress had targeted BJP and said that he left the seat even before the election campaign started. After getting the BJP ticket from Asansol, Pawan had written on the social media platform ‘X’, “I express my heartfelt gratitude to the top leadership of the Bharatiya Janata Party. The party expressed confidence in me and declared me a candidate from Asansol, but due to some reason I will not be able to contest elections from Asansol….”

This is believed to be the reason

It is worth noting that a large number of migrants live in Asansol and BJP was hoping that Pawan Singh would prove effective against Shatrughan Sinha, who came into politics from acting. Sinha was in BJP till 2019. Now, to calm the controversy, BJP has persuaded Pawan Singh to withdraw from the election contest at a time when the party is targeting Trinamool Congress over the Sandeshkhali controversy.
