Government’s strictness on pharma companies, ban on giving many other facilities including gift-trip – India TV Hindi

Strictness on pharma companies.

Strict action has been taken by the Central Government against pharmaceutical companies. The Central Government has issued notification of Uniform Code against Pharmaceutical Marketing Practices (UCPMP). According to this notification, the government has banned pharma companies from giving any gift and travel expenses to health care professionals or their family members for personal gain. Many other things have also been mentioned in the notification.

The notification issued by the Central Government states that no gift should be given by any pharma company/agent/distributor/wholesaler/retailers for the personal benefit of any health care professional/family member or Should not be provided. No pecuniary advantage or benefit of any kind can be offered, supplied or promised by any pharma company/agent/distributor, wholesaler, retailers to any person qualified to prescribe or supply medicines. Pharma companies/representatives should not provide travel facilities within or outside the country including rail, air, ship, cruise tickets, paid holidays etc. to health care professionals/family members.

Travel facilities should not be provided

The notification issued reads that pharma companies should not provide travel facilities to health care professionals to attend conferences, seminars, workshops, unless the person is a speaker. Pharma companies/representatives should not extend hospitality such as hotel stays, expensive cuisine, or resort accommodations.” to health care professionals/family members, unless the individual is the speaker. Pharma companies/representatives should not extend hospitality to any health care professional. The professional/family member should not be paid cash or monetary grants.

Other rules also issued

The new rule of the Central Government states that free samples of medicines will not be given to any person who is not qualified to prescribe such a product. Every company should maintain details like name of the product, name of the doctor, quantity of samples given, date of supply of free samples. Healthcare providers and the monetary value of the samples so distributed should not exceed two percent of the company’s domestic sales per year.
