India and Saudi Arabia on Sunday signed a bilateral agreement under which New Delhi has been allotted a quota of 1,75,025 pilgrims for the annual Haj pilgrimage from 2024. Minority Affairs Minister Smriti Irani along with Minister of State for External Affairs V Muraleedharan signed the bilateral Haj Agreement 2024 with Saudi Haj and Umrah Minister Dr Taufiq bin Fauzan in Jeddah.

According to an official statement, a total quota of 1,75,025 pilgrims from India has been fixed for Haj 2024, of which 1,40,020 seats have been reserved for pilgrims through the Haj Committee, while 35,005 pilgrims have been booked through private operators. Will be able to come for Haj.

Irani gave this information through a post on ‘X’. She arrived here on Sunday on a two-day visit to attend the Haj Conference and sign the Haj Agreement 2024 between India and Saudi Arabia.

Ambassador Dr. Suhail Khan, Consul General Mohammad Shahid and officials of Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Hajj and Umrah received Irani at Jeddah Airport. “Minority Affairs Minister Smriti Irani has reached Jeddah to participate in the Haj conference and sign the bilateral Haj agreement,” the Consulate General of India in Jeddah said on Friday.

Irani will also hold a bilateral meeting with Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Hajj and Umrah Affairs Tawfiq bin Fauzan Al Rabia and discuss issues of mutual interest related to the upcoming Hajj pilgrimage, it said in a statement. She will also attend the opening ceremony of the third edition of the ‘Hajj and Umrah Conference’ in Jeddah on Monday, which is being organized by the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah Affairs of Saudi Arabia.
