High Court orders judicial inquiry into the death of farmer Shubhakaran Singh – India TV Hindi

Farmer Shubhakaran Singh died on 21 February

Chandigarh: A young farmer, Shubhakaran Singh, was killed during a clash between protesting farmers and Haryana security personnel at the Khanauri border last month. Now Punjab and Haryana High Court has ordered a judicial inquiry into this matter. A division bench of Acting Chief Justice GS Sandhwalia and Justice Lupita Banerjee gave this order while hearing petitions related to the farmers’ movement. In this case, petitioner lawyer Uday Pratap Singh said that the court has ordered a judicial inquiry into the death of farmer Shubhakaran Singh.

Death occurred during skirmish on Khanauri border

Petitioner Uday Pratap Singh said that the case will be investigated by a retired Justice of the High Court and two officers of the rank of Additional Director General of Police of Punjab and Haryana. Shubhakaran (21), originally a resident of Bathinda, was killed during a clash on the Khanauri border of Punjab-Haryana on February 21. 12 policemen were also injured during this clash. The Punjab government has already registered a case of murder in ‘zero FIR’ in the matter.

Last rites performed in ancestral village

It is noteworthy that the last rites of farmer Shubhakaran Singh, who was killed in a clash with Haryana security personnel on the Khanauri border of Haryana and Punjab, were performed on February 29 in his native village in Bathinda district of Punjab. 21-year-old Shubhakaran was killed and 12 police personnel were injured in the clash on February 21 at Khanauri border. The clash took place when the protesting farmers tried to break the barricades put up by security personnel to proceed further.

Farmers are protesting regarding these demands

Let us inform that in order to put pressure on the government on various demands including legal guarantee of Minimum Support Price (MSP) of crops, United Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMMA) have called for ‘Delhi Chalo’ march. The protesting farmers are stuck at the Shambhu and Khanauri borders of Punjab and Haryana after their march was stopped by security forces.
