The date of the world’s biggest elections has been announced. Lok Sabha elections in India will start from 19th April and voting will take place till 1st June. Elections will be held in seven phases and results will be declared on June 4. But it is also worth noting that this time the voting process for the Lok Sabha elections will be completed in 44 days, which will be the longest period of voting after the first parliamentary elections of 1951-52. Let us tell you that in the first election, voting continued for more than 4 months. This time, from the announcement of elections by the Election Commission till the counting of votes, the election process will be completed in a total of 82 days.

Started in 1951 and finished in 1952

But on this occasion, let us tell you some interesting things related to the first parliamentary elections of independent India. The country’s first general elections were held from 25 October 1951 to 21 February 1952. That means a year had passed between the beginning and the end of India’s first Lok Sabha election. This was India’s longest election in terms of time period. The shortest general elections in the country were held in 1980 when voting was completed in just four days. Voting in the first election lasted for more than 4 months.

The world’s biggest election was held in 1951 also.

In the general elections of India held in the year 1951, about 17 percent of the world’s population was going to vote. India’s first Lok Sabha election was the biggest election at that time and even today it is the biggest election in the world. During that period, a total of 17 days of voting took place on different dates. Then the Election Commission had established 1,96,084 polling stations across the country.

Sukumar Sen had conducted the first election

The first Chief Election Commissioner of India was Sukumar Sen, who conducted the first general elections of independent India. It should also be noted here that during the first elections of this country held in 1951, neither the voters of the country had any prior experience of elections nor the Election Commission had any infrastructure. The first Lok Sabha elections in India started on 25 October 1951 and after this the first Lok Sabha was formed in the country on 17 April 1952. Then Jawaharlal Nehru became the first elected Prime Minister and after this he formed his cabinet.

The first election was held for 499 seats.

During the first Lok Sabha elections held in the year 1951-52, the total population of India was approximately 36 crores. In the first general election, 10 crore 59 lakh voters had cast their votes. In the first Lok Sabha elections of 1951-52, the total voting percentage was 45.67 percent. In this election, votes were cast for 499 seats across the country and 1874 candidates were in the fray. A total of 53 parties contested the general elections of 1951–52, including 14 national parties and 39 regional parties.
