‘I am 83 years old, if Congress workers ask then I can contest elections’, refuses to contest elections – India TV Hindi

New Delhi : Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Tuesday rejected reports of several senior party leaders refusing to contest the Lok Sabha elections and said that if the workers speak, they can also contest the elections. He said that it is wrong that we are retreating (from contesting the elections). I am 83 years old, you (journalist) are retired at 65. I am 83 years old. If you give me a chance, all (workers) will say, I will definitely fight.” He said that there are 10 contenders for ticket on one seat in Congress.

However, citing his age as 83, he indicated that he might not contest the elections. When asked why Sonia Gandhi, he and many other senior leaders were not contesting the elections, Kharge said, “No, it is wrong that we are withdrawing (from contesting the elections). I am 83 years old, you (journalist) are retired at 65. I am 83 years old.

Congress released the second list of candidates

Let us tell you that Congress has released its second list of 43 candidates for the Lok Sabha elections on Tuesday. This list includes the names of Vaibhav Gehlot, son of former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and Nakulnath, son of former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath. Congress has so far announced 82 candidates for the Lok Sabha elections. It had released the first list of 39 candidates last Friday, in which the name of former Congress President Rahul Gandhi was also included. Rahul Gandhi is contesting from the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat in Kerala which he currently represents.

Party’s organization general secretary KC Venugopal announced the names of the candidates on Tuesday. This list includes the names of 12 candidates from Assam, seven from Gujarat, 10 from Madhya Pradesh, 10 from Rajasthan, three from Uttarakhand and one from Daman and Diu. Venugopal said that in the second list of Congress candidates, 10 candidates are from the general category while 33 candidates are from Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, Other Backward Classes and minority communities. The Central Election Committee (CEC) of the Congress on Monday discussed the names of more than 60 candidates for five states and one union territory in view of the Lok Sabha elections, out of which 43 were approved.

Vaibhav Gehlot has been made the candidate from Jalore Lok Sabha constituency of Rajasthan. Former Rajasthan Cricket Association president Vaibhav Gehlot was the Congress candidate from Jodhpur in the last Lok Sabha elections, however, he lost to Union Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Gajendra Singh Shekhawat. Nakul Nath has once again been made a candidate from Chhindwara seat of Madhya Pradesh. He was elected for the first time from this seat in 2019. His father Kamal Nath has represented this constituency nine times. In the first list of Congress candidates, 15 candidates were from the general category and 24 were from Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes and minority communities.
