Kargil war hero Captain Vikram Batra’s mother passes away

Kamalkant Batra, former Aam Aadmi Party leader and mother of Kargil war hero Captain Vikram Batra, died on Wednesday. She was 77 years old. He breathed his last in Palampur in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh. He had a heart attack. Kamalkant Batra had also contested the Lok Sabha elections in the year 2014. He had contested the elections on behalf of Aam Aadmi Party. However, he was defeated in the elections. Later he resigned from AAP.

Himachal CM expressed grief

Himachal Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu expressed grief over the demise of Kamalkant Batra. He wrote on ‘X’, “Received the sad news of the demise of Smt. Kamalkant Batra ji, mother of Martyr Captain Vikram Batra ji. We pray to God to give a place to the mother ji and to spare the bereaved family from suffering immense sorrow. Give strength. Om Shanti!”

Who was Captain Vikram Batra?

Vikram Batra was martyred while fighting with the Pakistani Army during the Kargil War in 1999 at the age of 24. The late Captain was posthumously awarded the Param Vir Chakra, India’s highest gallantry award, for his supreme sacrifice. He was named “Shershah” during the Kargil war. Holding the position for Point 4875 at an altitude of 18,000 feet, one of the toughest challenges of the Kargil war, was like chewing iron. Narrow place to climb up and the enemy being in such a position right in front from where he can easily target you. Even after all these difficulties, the enemies could not stop the steps of Captain Vikram Batra. Attacking the enemy front, Captain Vikram Batra first fought hand to hand and then killed 5 enemy soldiers from the Point Black range. Despite being deeply wounded, Batra did not stop, he crawled closer to the enemy and cleared the position by throwing a grenade. Vikram Batra was martyred by enemy bullets. Later his team achieved the target of recapturing Point 4875. Even today Point 4875 is known as Batra Top.
