The consecration of Ayodhya Ram temple will take place on 22 January. On this occasion, the Siddaramaiah government of Karnataka is going to organize special prayers in all the temples across the state. Regarding this, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, who was on a tour of Kerala, defended his government’s decision to celebrate the Ram Temple Pran Pratishtha ceremony, saying that ultimately we are all Hindus. DK Shivakumar has reached Thiruvananthapuram, the capital of Kerala state, to attend the Ramachandran Foundation awards ceremony.

“The Center is adopting a selective approach”

DK Shivakumar, in response to a question by reporters on Karnataka’s Congress government celebrating consecration ceremonies in temples across the state, said, “See, ultimately we are all Hindus.” When asked by journalists why the Congress high command had decided not to participate in the ceremony to be held in Ayodhya, he said that the BJP-ruled Center is adopting a selective approach on who will attend the event.

“This is not private property”

In an indirect reference to Ram temple, Shivakumar also said that it is not a private property. He said, “BJP is adopting a selective approach in selecting leaders. There are many leaders and chief ministers in the country. This is not private property. This is public property. No religion or symbol belongs to any person.” Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, former Congress President Sonia Gandhi and party leader in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury have received invitations for the consecration ceremony.

Inauguration of Ram temple on 22 January

“We respect the sentiments of all people,” Shivakumar said, adding that his government has departments for minorities, Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes (OBCs) and Hinduism. Let us tell you that in a historic decision in 2019, the Supreme Court had supported the construction of Ram temple by a government trust at the disputed site in Ayodhya and ruled that five acres for a mosque in the city considered sacred by Hindus. An alternative plot should be found. As a result, Ayodhya is being decorated for the consecration ceremony of the grand Ram temple being built there, which will take place on January 22 in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
