New Delhi: National President of Janata Dal (United) Lalan Singh has resigned from his post. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was elected JDU president in the party’s national executive meeting on Friday. After resigning from his post, Lalan Singh got angry at the media. He said that the media works at the behest of BJP. Lalan Singh said, ‘The news is going on for the last 8 days that there are differences between Nitish and Lalan Singh. Let me tell you that I have been with Nitish ji ever since he joined him.

‘I had requested the CM several times to…’

Lalan Singh said in the National Executive meeting, ‘Even when I became the president, I had expressed my disagreement. After that I asked the CM several times to relieve me of the responsibility. I have been saying this for about 6 months because I have to contest elections. Let us tell you that it was Lalan Singh who had proposed Nitish’s name while leaving the post of president. He had said that the party would need his leadership at this crucial juncture before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, while he himself would be busy contesting his own elections.

‘Nitish is the only universally accepted leader of JDU’

Lalan Singh, MP from Munger, Bihar, said, ‘The media is saying that Nitish is going with BJP. How can we go? Will never go with BJP. Janata Dal United has only one universally recognized leader and that is Nitish Kumar. Nitish did not want to become the Chief Minister in 2020, but when Prime Minister Narendra Modi called and pressurized him, he accepted the post. Small leaders of BJP give statements about Nitish ji. Who will go with them? We are happy that Nitish ji has accepted the post of president.
