BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad strongly attacked Mamata Banerjee’s government.

New Delhi: BJP claimed on Wednesday that the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress government has left behind even the governments of Left parties in terms of atrocities on the people of West Bengal. BJP lashed out at Mamata government and said that the people will give a befitting reply to Trinamool Congress in the Lok Sabha elections. Raising the issue of alleged sexual harassment of women in Sandeshkhali in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district, senior BJP leader and former Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad criticized the Congress and other constituents of the opposition ‘INDI’ alliance over their silence on the issue. Raised questions.

‘This is a matter of shame for democracy’

In a press conference at the BJP headquarters in Delhi, Prasad said, ‘The issue of Sandeshkhali is becoming very serious. Attacks on women, disrespectful treatment of them and sexual exploitation are a matter of shame for our society and democracy. He criticized West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for defending such incidents in the state and questioned the conscience of her and other opposition parties. He said, ‘When Mamata Banerjee fought against the atrocities of CPM and sat on an indefinite agitation against it, we all became her fans and appreciated her struggle.’

‘Mamata ji, you will have to answer’

Prasad said, ‘In terms of excesses and police repression, the present government has left the then CPM regime behind. It’s a shame. Where is his conscience? Mamta ji, you will have to answer. Mamta ji, you will have to pay the price for this. The public will give you a political answer. Sandeshkhali area, located on the borders of the Sundarbans, about 100 km from Kolkata, has been witnessing protests after local women accused absconding Trinamool Congress leader Sheikh Shahjahan and his supporters of land-grabbing and sexual harassment.

‘The opposition is silent on the incidents of Sandeshkhali’

Prasad slammed the Congress, AAP, Left parties and other constituents of the ‘INDI’ alliance for not speaking on the Sandeshkhali issue and said their silence was evidence of their ‘hypocrisy and blatant double standards’. He also condemned the arrest of a news channel reporter by the West Bengal Police. Referring to the Supreme Court’s decision on the Chandigarh mayor election, the BJP leader said, ‘An incident happened in Chandigarh. We respect the decision of the Supreme Court. This is a closed chapter. But everyone is giving speeches on it in unison and they all are silent on the issue of plundering the dignity of women in Sandeshkhali.

‘Rahul, who speaks on every issue, is also silent’

Ravi Shankar Prasad said, ‘Yesterday (Tuesday) I heard the news of a CPM leader going there. But the CPM has neither formally protested (the alleged incidents at Sandeshkhali) nor made any public comment on the issue. Rahul Gandhi, who speaks on every issue, is also silent. They say that BJP is undemocratic. According to him, people are not safe under BJP rule. Today women are not safe under Mamata Banerjee’s rule. They are being made victims of police repression. And Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, Arvind Kejriwal, the Left, they all are silent.
