Dumka: There are total 14 Lok Sabha seats in entire Jharkhand, out of which Dumka Lok Sabha seat is also one. A total of 6 assembly seats come under Dumka Lok Sabha seat. These include Shikaripada, Nala, Jamtara, Dumka, Jama and Sarath assembly seats. Of these, 4 assembly seats are held by JMM, while one seat is held by BJP and one seat is held by Congress. Dumka is a tribal dominated area, where 93 percent people live in villages, while about 40 percent of the population is tribal. At the same time, Muslim community also plays an important role in the elections here.

2014 election and its equations

Talking about Lok Sabha elections 2014, Jharkhand was divided into three phases for the elections. Voting was held in Jharkhand under the third, fifth and sixth phases. In this sequence, voting took place on April 24 in the sixth phase of Lok Sabha elections. This seat was already occupied by Jharkhand Mukti Morcha. Veteran JMM leader Shibu Soren himself was contesting the Lok Sabha elections from here. Bharatiya Janata Party had fielded Sunil Soren against him in 2014. When the voting results were revealed on May 16, JMM leader Shibu Soren registered victory. Whereas in 2014, despite the Modi wave, Shibu Soren winning the election was a big thing. In this election, while Shibu Soren got 335815 votes, BJP candidate Sunil Soren got 296785 votes.

2019 election and its equations

Now, if we talk about Lok Sabha elections 2019, then the equations of Dumka seat had changed a lot, because Narendra Modi government was in power at the center for the last five years. Its direct impact was seen in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. This time too, like in 2014, Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Sunil Soren was in the fray against Jharkhand Mukti Morcha leader Shibu Soren. In the year 2019, voting was held on 19 May for Dumka seat of Jharkhand. The result that came on 23 May 2019 surprised everyone. Shibu Soren, who had held the Dumka seat for several times, was defeated by BJP candidate Sunil Soren. In this election, Sunil Soren got 484923 votes, while JMM leader Shibu Soren stood second by getting 437333 votes.

What does the politics of Dumka seat say?

If we talk about the elections held till now on Dumka Lok Sabha seat, JHP had won the Dumka seat in 1957. After this, Congress controlled Dumka in 1962, 1967 and 1971. Congress had to face defeat in the 1977 Lok Sabha elections. Shibu Soren won from here for the first time in 1980, however, Congress again captured this seat in 1984. After this, JMM won the Dumka seat in 1989, 1991 and 1996. After this, BJP won here in 1998 and 1999. From 2002 to 2019, Shibu Soren won from here continuously. In the 2019 elections, he lost to BJP leader Sunil Soren.
