The dates of Lok Sabha elections have been announced and a close fight is now visible on all the seats. Baharampur Lok Sabha seat of West Bengal is also included in such seats. There is a possibility of a close contest on this seat between not one or two but three giants. Prominent leader Adhir Ranjan Choudhary is in the fray on Congress ticket from Baharampur, while Trinamool Congress has made former international cricketer Yusuf Pathan its candidate. At the same time, BJP, which is trying to change history on this seat, has its hopes pinned on its candidate Nirmal Kumar Saha.

What has been the history of Baharampur Lok Sabha seat?

Baharampur, one of the 42 Lok Sabha seats in West Bengal, was earlier known as Behrampur. Tridib Chaudhary of Revolutionary Socialist Party was the MP on this seat from 1952 to 1980. In 1984, Congress leader Atish Chandra won from here, while from 1989 to 1998, the Revolutionary Socialist Party again dominated. Current MP Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary had won this seat for the first time in 1999 and since then he has been continuously waving the flag of his party in Baharampur. In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, both BJP and TMC will try their best to conquer this stronghold of Congress in Bengal.

Will Adhir Ranjan Choudhary be able to save his stronghold?

When the votes are cast in Baharampur on May 13 in the fourth phase of 2024 Lok Sabha elections, there will be only one question in everyone’s mind that will veteran Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Choudhary be able to save his stronghold? Chaudhary has been winning this seat continuously since 1999. His ability to maintain his stronghold in a state like Bengal has given him the status of leader of Congress in the Lok Sabha. Chaudhary is also the president of the West Bengal unit of Congress. He has also been the Minister of State for Railways at the Center from 2012 to 2014. He was also a member of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly from 1996 to 1999.

Now Yusuf Pathan will bat on the political pitch

Trinamool Congress has played a big gamble by fielding cricketer Yusuf Pathan, famous for his stormy innings, on the political pitch. Experts believe that Yusuf can make the path of Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary difficult in Baharampur. Yusuf may have helped India win many matches with his fours and sixes on the cricket field, but he is completely new on the political pitch. In such a situation, it will be interesting to see how he overcomes the challenge of Adhir Ranjan Choudhary and Nirmal Kumar Saha to live up to the expectations of Trinamool Congress.

BJP’s big bet in the form of Nirmal Kumar Saha

Bharatiya Janata Party has fielded Dr. Nirmal Kumar Saha from Baharampur seat. Let us tell you that after the announcement of his name, Nirmal Kumar Saha had said that he will fight in this election like a soldier. He had said that he will take the message of developed India to every home. It is believed that due to his clean image, Nirmal Kumar Saha can surprise his opponents on this seat. In such a situation, after assessing the situation of the three candidates, it can be said that this time the fight on the Baharampur seat is going to be interesting.

Lok Sabha elections will be held in Bengal in 7 phases

Talking about the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, BJP had stunned the entire opposition with its spectacular performance. The party created a stir in the state by winning 18 out of 42 Lok Sabha seats while Trinamool Congress got 22 seats. Congress had won 2 seats in these elections, one of which was that of Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary. Voting in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections will begin in 7 phases on April 19 and end on June 1. Counting of votes for these elections will take place on June 4. In West Bengal too, voting will be held in all seven phases, and the Baharampur seat will go to polls in the fourth phase on May 13.
