India celebrated its 75th Republic Day on 26 January. French President Emmanuel Macron has attended as the chief guest on the occasion of Republic Day. On this occasion, Emmanuel Macron arrived in a traditional carriage with President Draupadi Murmu to participate in the parade on the duty path. Buggy ride after 40 years
President Murmu arrived on the path of duty in a traditional carriage along with the chief guest of Republic Day this year and his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron. This practice has been started again this year after a gap of 40 years. Let us tell you that on the first Republic Day in 1950, the country’s first President Dr. Rajendra Prasad was sitting in this carriage. Viceroys also used it during the British Raj. This tradition continued till 1984. However, after the assassination of PM Indira Gandhi, the tradition of the buggy was stopped and cars started being used instead.
President’s bodyguards provided security
The buggy in which President Murmu and Emmanuel Macron traveled was provided security by the President’s bodyguards. Let us tell you that the President’s Body Guard is the most senior regiment of the Indian Army. This Republic Day is special for this elite regiment as the ‘Angarakshak’ has completed 250 years of service since its inception in 1773.
Macron became witness to the grand event
French President Emmanuel Macron witnessed the grand event while on duty as the chief guest of the Republic Day celebrations. With this, he became included in the list of select world leaders who have graced the country’s biggest event in the last seven decades. This was the sixth time that a French leader has become the chief guest at the Republic Day celebrations. (input language)
