Mahua Moitra’s MP in danger: Why are questions being raised on the Ethics Committee report?

Parliament’s Ethics Committee has completed its investigation in the cash for query (asking questions by taking money) case. According to sources, the Ethics Committee has prepared a report of about 500 pages in this matter. The committee has recommended to the Lok Sabha Speaker to cancel Mahua’s membership.

Considering this as a serious crime, 6 out of 10 members of the committee have submitted their report to the Lok Sabha Speaker. 4 members lodged their notes protesting against the cancellation of membership. The report of the committee will first be tabled in the Lok Sabha, then the Speaker will take further action on Mahua.

After the committee’s report, Mahua has also written a post on social media. Mahua has written that because of this conspiracy of BJP, the path to 2024 has become easy for me. She has said that I will return to Parliament again in 2024.

However, the swift action taken against Mahua Moitra is in discussion in political circles. Ethics committee member and BSP MP Danish Ali, while talking to PTI, said that the matter was not discussed in detail.

According to Ali, as soon as we went to the meeting, the chairman of the committee talked about voting. Everyone was asked to raise their hands and then the meeting ended. Committee Chairman Vinod Sonkar has refused to say anything in the entire matter.

What will happen now in Mahua case, 2 points

  • The Speaker can see the report of the Ethics Committee. In the winter session of Parliament, the Speaker will put it on the table of the Lok Sabha and get voting from all the members. After voting, Mahua can be expelled from the Lok Sabha. Based on the report of the Ethics Committee, the Speaker of the Lok Sabha can hand over the investigation of the case to any agency, so that the criminal angle of the case can also be investigated. Possible.

Members are raising questions on 3 things of the investigation
Ethics Committee member and JDU MP from Banka Giridhari Yadav tells ABP News – This entire matter is a matter of justice. It is against the principle of. There has been haste in the Mahua case. They say-

1. The entire allegation against Mahua was made on the basis of the affidavit of industrialist Darshan Hiranandani. Hiranandani was not invited to the committee meeting. No effective mechanism was used to cross check the affidavit in the meeting. In such a situation, how will it be believed that the affidavit is true?

2. Mahua Moitra’s side was not heard completely. Mahua came out of the meeting within 2 minutes. He was not given a chance to present his case a second time. Actually, Mahua had boycotted the committee meeting. His allegation was that the chairman of the committee asked him personal questions.

3.The committee members were called, but not told what to do? Why were we called when we had to take the decision ourselves? We have asked the Lok Sabha to explain the powers of the members of the Ethics Committee.

Another member of the committee and BSP MP from Amroha, Kunwar Danish Ali says – A half-incomplete report has been sent. The discussion that took place in the committee has not been included in the report.

The person who gave the affidavit has not been called in the committee. From this it appears that the matter has been rushed.

What happened in the Ethics Committee meeting?
On November 2, the Ethics Committee had issued a notice to Mahua Moitra in the cash for query case. A few minutes after the meeting started, Mahua came out in a huff. Mahua alleged that she was asked personal and dirty questions.

Along with Mahua, committee members Danish Ali and Giridhari Yadav also left the meeting. Everyone’s allegation was that the chairman asked Mahua, ‘Who do you talk to at night?’"text-align: justify;">On the question of Mahua Moitra not being allowed to present her side, Ethics Committee member and BJP MP Sumedhanand Saraswati says – She was called in the meeting, but she left after abusing the Chairman. Now how will we take their side in such a situation?

You people asked him personal questions, on this Saraswati says – This matter was also related to a personal email account, so the question will also be asked in the same context, right? He says- Mahua Moitra was asked only one or two questions and she left after uttering abusive words.

In response to what question was asked, Saraswati says – At whose expense did you go abroad etc…

We also wanted to take Mahua Moitra’s side in this whole matter, but she did not pick up the phone.

After this, a second meeting of the Ethics Committee was called, in which voting was conducted on the fact finding report. In the same meeting, many members asked to call Darshan Hiranandani also, but the Chairman refused.

On the question of why Darshan Hiranandani was not called, BJP MP Sumedhanand Saraswati says – This is an internal matter and how can I tell you this outside the committee?

The most interesting thing was the presence of members during voting. Only 10 out of 15 members cast their votes. 4 members of BJP and 1 each of Shiv Sena-Congress voted in favor, while one member each of JDU, BSP, CPM and Congress opposed it.

Congress’s Preneet Kaur has justified the fact finding report in Mahua case.

Is this a hasty decision?
MP and Ethics Committee member Giridhari Yadav says – It is absolutely hasty. Many cases are pending with the parliamentary committee for a long time, but in this case the report has been given within a month?

Mentioning the reason for the haste, Giridhari Yadav says- There is a special industrialist. If you speak against Gautam Adani, action will definitely be taken. Action is being taken against Mahua for the same reason.

They say- There was no case of ED and CBI against Mahua Moitra, hence this case has been made. There is a conspiracy to not allow him to come to Parliament. Some people have been made pawns in this case.

Another member of the committee says on the condition of anonymity – Turn this question around and ask why the parliamentary committee takes decisions late in other matters?

He says- When the Speaker assigns work to a committee, the job of the committee is to quickly hear the case and submit its report to the Speaker. The Ethics Committee has adopted this practice.

What is the allegation against Mahua Moitra?
Supreme Court lawyer Jai Anant Dehdrai filed a written complaint with the CBI on October 14. Dehdraai said that Mahua asks questions in Parliament by taking money. Dehdrai alleged that Mahua asks questions related to Adani only after taking money.

Based on this complaint, BJP MP Nishikant Dubey wrote a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. Dubey demanded to send the matter to the Ethics Committee. Om Birla accepted this demand.

Meanwhile, an affidavit of industrialist Darshan Hiranandani came out, in which it was claimed that Mahua took money from him for asking questions in Parliament. Hiranandani wrote in the affidavit that he used the Sansad ID of Mahua.

Nishikant Dubey alleged that Mahua’s Parliament ID was accessed from Dubai. Mahua also mentioned the role of the Prime Minister’s Office in the entire matter. Mahua said that Hiranandani has issued this affidavit under pressure from the Prime Minister’s Office.

In an interview given to a TV channel, Mahua said that I have definitely taken 1-2 gifts from Darshan Hiranandani on my birthday, but this gift was not for asking questions.
