‘Government should accept the demands of farmers’

Let us tell you that before this, three rounds of meeting between the central government and representatives of farmers organizations had failed in Chandigarh. After the earlier meeting, farmer leaders said that the government is reluctant to guarantee MSP. Although some farmers asked for time to think about this, they remained adamant that farmers’ loans should be waived off and they should be guaranteed minimum support price (MSP) on their crops. Earlier, farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal had said that the central government should not adopt the policy of procrastination.

What did the farmers say?

Before this meeting, he had said that the demands of the farmers should be accepted before the code of conduct is implemented. Lok Sabha elections can be announced next month. A meeting is going on between the leaders of farmer organizations and the central government on providing legal guarantee of minimum support price for crops and loan waiver. Meanwhile, thousands of farmers are standing in Shambhu and Khanauri on the border of Punjab and Haryana with various demands. A large number of security forces have been deployed to prevent farmers from entering the national capital.
